Misty Hollow Horse Program Opportunities Blaze a trail to Misty Hollow and discover all the many exciting opportunities! Please read through the following information thoroughly to help you decide on the best program for you or your group. Our council leases horses and has them at Misty Hollow mid-May to Mid-October. In Spring and Fall, before and after the several weeks of summer day and resident camp, the horses are available for Girl Scout groups to schedule horseback riding programs appropriate for girls' ages and skill level. Registration Information: Use the Program Registration Form to request a group horseback riding program. Be sure to indicate three date choices and the program appropriate for the age and skill level for the girls in your group Call the Reservation Secretary, ext. 2129 for questions about date availability. Call the Outdoor Program Specialist at ext. 2278 for questions about program. Note: Program length listed is estimated of time for total program. Actual time riding in the arena varies depending on number of riders, weather, etc. Horseback Riding Program For Groups BROWNIE TASTER Brownie Girl Scouts. Enjoy a short orientation on safety followed by "pony rides" in the area. At least four adults who are willing to help lead a horse must accompany the group. Adults cannot ride at this program. HOBBY HORSE TRY-IT PROGRAM 2nd and 3rd year Brownies. Spend your time learning about horses: colors, markings, parts of saddle, bridle, horse grooming and basic riding techniques. A few activities need to be completed within the group in order to complete the Try-It. At least four adults who are willing to help lead a horse must accompany the group. Adults cannot ride at this program. ORIENTATION Junior/Girls 11-17. If your group hasn't been to Misty Hollow before or if you have new girls in your group, this session will give the girls an introduction to horses and will take them on a ride in the ring to learn the basic riding skills. GROUP LESSONS 3rd year Brownie/Junior/Girls 11-17. HORSE FAN BADGE PROGRAM Junior Girl Scouts. Learn about saddle & bridle parts, take a tour of the barn, groom and take a ride in the arena. HORSE RIDER BADGE PROGRAM Junior Girl Scouts. Review horse parts, find out about first aid for horses, pick hooves, and go for a ride in the area. Must have completed the Horse Lover or Horse Fan Badge Program. Please review page 107 in the Junior Girl Scout Badge Book. TRAIL RIDES 3rd year Junior/Girls 11-17. For those girls who have participated in at least two riding sessions and are comfortable on a horse. The time period will be spent on ring riding to practice skills and then off on the trail. Equipment Each participant must wear long pants, shoes or boots with 1/2 inch heel. A selection of boots is available at Misty Hollow. Helmets are provided and are required to be worn when working with and riding horses. A certified first aider must accompany all group programs.
