Extended Trips

For more information please contact Stephanie Hesler.

“A Girl Scout trip is an opportunity for girls to have fun, to experience adventure, and to enrich the ongoing Girl Scout program. Sometimes a trip is the culmination of a progression of activities that the girls are already engaged in."

Extended Trip Home Study Prerequistes

Groups planning trips of three nights or longer must have the assistance of a trained Extended Trip Advisor during planning and on the trip itself.

The Extended Trip Advisor must be a registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA, have completed Girl Scout Basics (on-line), the Moving Out I home study and AL Trips, accompanied the girls on 2-3 overnight trips, and submitted an Extended Trip Interest Form based on a trip of three nights or more the girls are interested in planning. If Moving Out I was taken prior to June 2006, a transition home study must be completed. Please contact the adult training manager.

An Extended Trip Interest Form should be requested/downloaded at least one year in advance of the actual trip date, two years for an international trip. For Domestic trips, Part A is due in the council office at least six months prior to the trip. Part B is due one month prior to departure. For international trips, Part A is due one year in advance and Part B is due two months prior to departure. A final post-trip evaluation and actual revenue and expense report will be due within a month of the end of the trip. The most current version of the Extended Trip Planning Guide, complete with sample forms and worksheets, is available on this web site.

If you were a leader prior to Moving Out I in August 1997 and feel you have the experience and knowledge to test out of MOI, contact the adult training manager. Neither Fundamentals of Planning Trips with Girl Scouts nor Basic Leader III and IV qualify as a prerequisite for this home study.

Note: Because of our proximity to Canada, Girl Scouts – Seven Lakes Council has established a procedure for Junior Girl Scout Groups to receive council approval for visits to Toronto or to Niagara Falls, Canada.

Junior Girl Scout Groups and Girls 11-13 and Travel to Toronto
Safety-Wise presents a progression of trip experiences which states International trips, such as to Canada, Mexico, and England, are available to girls 14 years old and older who have taken previous overnight trips. (See Safety-Wise, page 46.) This council has had many Junior Girl Scout groups and girls 11-13 who have planned a trip to Toronto or to Niagara Falls, Canada. We have established a procedure for Junior groups and girls 11-13 to receive council approval for visits to Toronto of 48 hours or less. Leaders are to submit the Group Travel Permission form one month in advance of departure to the service unit manager for approval. Once approved, it will be forwarded to council to review. Once co-signed, it will be returned to the leader. The council will log the dates and destination of the trip and the participants. Trips to Toronto will not be approved for girls under 14 for more than 48 hours.
